Workshop 45

Where Did the Potter Go?
with Craig Roberts
$985
Monday November 7 - Thursday November 10, 9:00AM-4:30PM
Make a believable pottery studio in 1" or ½"
scale. "This is an amazing project; a potter could work in
here." For this class, you will receive a working/spinable
kick wheel, shelving, clay, workbenches, table, the space itself,
some accessories and 40 (yes forty!) of Craig's pots (over $500
worth of stuff). The first day, you will make some of your own
pots on a mini electric pottery wheel. You'll make some good ones
and lots of "mistake" ones, which you can utilize in
your studio. Day two you'll make pottery tools, "cardboard
boxes", age the kick wheel, make balls of clay and work on
a floor plan. Remaining days are spent assembling, aging, spattering,
gluing and probably "cluttering" your room. There are
numerous options available for the studio this year; a 3rd wall
(with window option), a kiln, more of Craig's pots (in various
stages of completion) and a potter figure. Another option that
many students have chosen is to keep making pottery for most of
their time and take the studio parts home to assemble in their
own work space so they have an abundance of pottery! There will
also be a 2nd instructor, which allows for more individualized
attention and ability to easily multi-task firing pots, gluing
work benches and/or sawing custom shelving. This class deliberately
has you sitting at the potter's wheel for at least a day, so you
get a real feel for some of the idiosyncrasies of pottery making.
Also, it helps make your finished studio feel very "Authentic."
Student Supplies and Tools Needed: your "tool box",
a work light, magnifiers, an apron, hand towel and any accessories,
pots or related items you may wish to "personalize"
your pottery space.
