Workshop 43

Making Pottery from Start to Finish
with Craig Roberts
$785
Monday November 7 - Thursday November 10, 9:00AM-4:30PM
In this class, students often make 100 or more pieces of pottery
on a 1" and/or ½" scale. Students will start
with marble-sized balls of clay and utilizing miniature electric
pottery wheels, learn how to "throw" pots. Students
will also use rollers, extruders and other tools to make handles,
napkin holders, wall pieces and "rustic" pots. (Students
can also opt to work on "hand building" rather than
the wheel). You will practice on the wheels a lot everyday, which
reinforces what is demonstrated in the numerous demos each day.
There is a "study guide" for each student which includes
a "glossary of terminology" as well as detailed step-by-step
review of throwing and glazing skills. In this class, we will
also delve into trimming, glazing, handles, lids, and even how
to use the kiln. A second potter helps the instructor to give
individual attention to each student every day. All of your pieces
get fired before the show concludes, so you can take your masterpieces
with you; along with a DVD showing Craig working on the wheel.
Also, there will be evening practice time for the first three
days, and 95% of past students say "This is so much fun!"
Student Supplies and Tools Needed: Students will need a work
light, apron, hand towel, magnifiers, plus your basic tool box
if you'd like. Also, a few small paint brushes would be useful.
