Workshop 34

Ace of Miniature Cakes
with Betsy Niederer

$125

Friday November 4, 9:00AM-12:30PM

Learn the techniques for making beautiful 12th scale party cakes! Students will receive an undecorated square 0.875" by 1.5" three tier cake, and will either copy one of the instructor's cake designs or create their very own over the top confection. Using polymer clay, students will learn miniature "fondant" techniques, how to make delicate flowers, subtle coloring and shading, the use of liquid clay, as well as how to harmonize color and form to create a cake worthy of everybody's favorite "Boss". The instructor will bring pictures that you can use for inspiration, a variety of clay colors, fun things to bling-up your cakes, and as always will provide the chocolate!

Student Supplies and Tools Needed: As we will be working with very small items, students should bring their own magnification, lighting, and an extension cord. Very good hand/eye coordination is necessary. This project is appropriate for all student levels. The instructor will provide the tools and clay, however students are always welcome to bring along any favorite tiny clay cutters, tweezers, brushes, or other supplies.
