Enter this 1:144 scale basement workshop where the miniature-maker has just stepped away from a dollhouse in progress! In this class you will learn how to scratch build in 1:144 or expand your skills as you work with a variety of materials, including resin-cast pieces designed exclusively for this class, laserboard, laser-cut kits, wood, 3D printed objects, and styrene. You will also work with a variety of interesting photo-etched brass parts—including some hard-to-find miniature tools for your workshop! The interior will be fully fitted with workbench and storage, power and hand tools, painting supplies and other scratch building materials, and of course a few finished and in progress dollhouses. Aging and weathering techniques will be used to enhance the realism of your room. The instructor will complete some cutting and other preparations in advance so that students should finish the project in the time allotted. Approximate finished size is 1.5” W x 1” deep.
Student Supplies & Tools Needed: Students should bring good magnification and lighting appropriate to the scale. Please bring a craft knife with 5 sharp #11 blades, fine tweezers, a small assembly jig, a set of needle files, and several small flat and round brushes of different sizes, including a very small detail brush (8/0 or smaller). All other materials and tools will be provided.
