Taming Fabrics-Lady's Boudoir Vignette with Draped Bath Robe
with Rachelle Spiegel

$90

Thursday November 3, 9:00AM-4:30PM

Create a vignette depicting a corner of a lady's boudoir with draped robe and slippers. Full sized garments have weight, which is acted upon by gravity. The tiny snippets of cloth used to make mini clothing don't want to behave! Learn to observe, create and tame a basic garment and attain realism by forming wrinkles and folds which mimic those naturally caused by gravity when a person places or drops their clothing down. We will also discuss how to apply this technique to a dressed figure. You will learn to accurately cut out scale patterns, assemble miniature garments while keeping hems and seams in scale and how to glue and drape fabric for a natural and realistic look. Included will be the table and stool and the small accessories that one would find on a dressing table (all on a one inch scale), which we will assemble from beads, metal findings and fabrics.

Student Supplies and Tools Needed: Small sharp fabric scissors, scissors for paper (straight blade and curved blade embroidery or cuticle scissors), fine pointed tweezers, wire cutters, ruler, thin sharp silk pins, quilters' pins or beading needles for draping fabric, glue applicator (glue syringe or bottle with small metal tip). Students are also encouraged but not recommended to bring a small iron, preferably mini-iron or a travel iron and ironing/pinning surface. The instructor will have some to share if you don't have one. Also, please bring magnification, small light and an extension cord if you will need them.
